Top quality food is a basic need of vital relevance to humans
The department of Food Science and Technology contributes significantly to top quality and safe food supply to the population by means of research and teaching in a national and international context. Research focuses in particular on specific needs of people living in Austria and Central Europe. Besides provision of profound knowledge, teaching educates students for transdisciplinary, critical and ethically responsible thinking.
The department comprises two institutes, each of them organized in thematic laboratories and representing the core disciplines of the food supply chain. Also within our university, the department takes first place with "food – nutrition – health" being one of the main areas of BOKU`s competence.
